Your Written Content
Often, gathering and writing the content for your website is the hardest part of the project. Why? Here are the the most common reasons:
- You just don’t like to write
- You don’t know what to write
- You don’t have time to write the content
- You don’t know how to format the content for websites
But, content is one of the most important things for your website, if not the most important! So, I’ve put together a process to make writing and gathering your content easier.
The process for writing your content includes 3 steps:
1. Content Strategy
We’ll work together to put together a content strategy. Your content strategy works as a roadmap for your content. It will help us stay focused and consistent when preparing the content for your website. And, it will help us deliver content that resonates with your target audience.
We’ll use a simple storytelling framework to prepare the content strategy. You’ll receive worksheets, and we’ll have a strategy call to complete the content strategy.
2. Content Worksheets
You’ll receive a series of content worksheets that guide you through putting together a draft of your content. But don’t worry, you won’t have to get it perfect!
I do believe you need be participate in the content writing process. You’re the person who understands your business and your customers, and we want your content to sound like you. However, you don’t need to do this alone. I will help you write and finalize your content, so that it will do a better job at turning your website visitors into clients.
3. Finalizing Your Content
I will use your completed worksheets to put together an edited version of your content for your website. You will then be able to review the content in a test website environment. You will have the opportunity at that point to edit the content if you wish.
Photos, Images, and Graphics
Imagery is also a very important part of your website. Visuals and imagery help break up the written content and keep people engaged on the website.
Gathering Photographs
The best choice for photographs is to hire a professional photographer. If you don’t have a big budget for that, then I strongly encourage you to at least get professional or higher quality photographs of you and your team.
If we need to use stock photography, I also strongly recommend you purchase premium stock photography, at least for the main pages of your website. I can help you choose what stock photos to use. I do have a limited selection of premium stock photos we can use for things like blog posts and less important pages of your website.
I do not recommend using free stock photos. Free stock photos can create copyright issues for you down the road. So, if we use any free stock photography, we will need to make sure to properly credit the source of each photo, usually with a “site credits” page.
Graphics and Illustrations
I am not a graphic artist. If you have specific graphics you want, or you want to use custom illustrations, we can work with a freelance graphic artist.
Alternatively, you can purchase pre-made stock graphics, similar to photographs. And there are a handful of free illustration sources out there.
Icons
There are several free icon sets we can use for your website. Also, we can purchase icons at a very reasonable price if you’d like something different.
